The goal of my life coaching program is to empower you to take action and move forward to improve the quality of your life. My coaching process is very fluid one -- how we proceed depends upon what we learn in each session. However, my coaching process usually includes the following basic elements, in the following general order:
Any coaching program we undertake will begin with a free 30-minute phone consultation. During this no-obligation consultation, we'll talk about what you'd like to change about yourself and your life. Based on what I learn about you, I will suggest how many sessions I think will be sufficient to make significant progress. I'll answer any questions you may have and together, we'll determine if my coaching services are the best choice for you. If so, we’ll decide on a date for our first coaching session.
Develop a Vision
One of the first things we’ll do in our coaching program is to identify your coaching goals -- in other words, where you’d like to go in life. We will explore various areas – relationships, career, money, health, etc. --- to make sure we work toward a healthy balance in your life as a whole. By creating a vision on which to focus, we will improve your motivation and strengthen your commitment.
Make a Plan
Together, we will strategize on how to accomplish your goals and create a plan of action. If you have attempted to attain this goal in the past, we will talk about how you have gone about it, what has worked for you and what hasn't. Sometimes, it is possible to envision the whole plan at the outset. Sometimes, we will need to gather information before we can define the entire plan. In any case, we will come up with the steps needed to get you where you want to go.
Although we will work together as a team during our coaching sessions, it will be you who takes action outside of the sessions. The actions may be physical such as submitting an application or doing some research. But the actions may also be mental actions such as pondering a question or observing a reaction. Based on my experience, I may suggest actions but you will decide if you want to commit to them, knowing that it is you who are ultimately responsible for attaining the goals you have set for yourself. My role as a coach will be to hold you accountable to ensure you follow through. And as your coach, I will be encouraging you and cheering you on each step of the way!
Throughout our coaching sessions, I will be asking you questions that make you think. As you ponder the answers to these questions, you will become more aware of who you are, what you do and how you do it. And as I learn more about you, I will provide you with honest feedback and seek to expand your view of what is possible. As a result, your vision may change and your plan will need to be adjusted. But that’s no problem – we will be flexible enough to make changes along the way as our knowledge unfolds!
Throughout the process, we are likely to encounter some obstacles we were unable to predict. But that won’t stand in our way! Based on my experience, I will guide our discussion in a direction where I think you might find a solution. Or, we may engage in a braining-storming session to come up with a list of potential solutions. After discussing the options, you will choose how you want to proceed and I will support you 100%!
Within a day or so after each session, I will send you a review of the important issues we discussed, a list of the actions to which you have committed and the date of our next session. Seeing the review in written form makes it easy to reflect on it and will often help you realize things that weren’t apparent to you during the session. And having a list of the actions is essential to make sure they get done. If necessary, we can arrange a brief phone or email check-in before the next session to make sure you’re making progress with your actions.
Reach your Goals
You may choose how much of the process you want to undertake in our coaching program. If clarity is what you are seeking, we can work together until your confusion has cleared and you can see your way forward. If you need help with planning, we can work together until we feel confident the plan we have developed includes any significant adjustments in your vision. If you are likely to procrastinate, you will want to work with me throughout the entire process to ensure you complete it. The important thing is that you make our coaching sessions a priority and that you commit yourself to them until you feel satisfied with where you are in your life. At that point, it’s time to acknowledge your success and celebrate!
